Like a fat slice of dark chocolate cake for your garden, this near-black succulent produces dense clumps of rosettes about 10” tall and 6” high with leaves emerging green before darkening to a sumptuous chocolatey brown. Easy to grow in soil with good drainage – it’s deer and drought tolerant and can even handle the occasional light frost. Extra showy, bright red, hummingbird-attracting flowers appear in Fall or Winter on branching 1’ tall stalks. Tolerates some shade, but chocolate color is best in full sun
